1955-1957
Co-founder/organizer/member of art discussion group, "Group '55" Philadelphia, PA. The group of some thirty non-objective local painters objective was to show their work and through discussions and forums, bring better understanding, not only between artist and public, but also between artist and artist. The slogan of the group came from the words of Andre Malraux: "Every art that greatly differs from its predecessor involves a transformation of taste, and this is often the point of departure for further changes." Dubin Lush Gallery devote a gallery space in the rear (and later upstairs) to the  group, including  Quita Brodhead, Barbara Crawford, Sam Feinstein, Sam Fried, Raymond Hendler, Francis Jennings, Doris Staffel, Sanford Greenberg, Peter Paone, Melville Price and Ruth Wollman. Inaugural exhibition began January 1956 with accompanying forum, "Changing Forms in Art" ; speakers: Louis I. Kahn, architect, George Rochberg, composer; Sam Fried, Doris Staffel, Raymond Hendler and Sam Feinstein, painters. "Group '55 so packed the house that an overflow of 200 persons were turned away. Audience enthusiasm detained the artist speakers long after the close of the program." Art in Focus, February 1956.
